Is there a nice logical workin for this puzzle? I looked for a while and then just did a time consuming highlander to get in.

If memory serves (it's been a while since I did this one), the logical step is (SPOILER - highlight below):
The two 7's in row 9, columns 6/7 force one of the two sevens in that column (R15C6 or R16C7) to be black, which forces the 13 in R15C7 to be white.
From the point in the spoiler, I made a good amount of progress in a couple of minutes (although I'm tired, and hitori isn't my strong suit), so I'm pretty sure that was the logical break in.

Yeah, what c4 said. I remember verifying this one and it took ages to find the opening, but you can see how it's built up when you continue from there. It's one of those builders' tricks.

Thanks for reminding me I still have a few hitori puzzles to solve. I skipped the really big ones because I found them a bit awkward when I tried them a while ago, before the puzzle applet could be enlarged.

Thanks for posting the break-in. Hitori always seems like a puzzle type that don't make for very good puzzles of large size -- after a point, it's less about solving a puzzle and more about finding the needles in a haystack.
