I would like to open a discussion about the possibility to appoint a new judge. In my opinion, some puzzles are waiting in the vestibule too long, and I can think this time will shorten if more people are willing and able to spend time to verify the uniqueness of the solution.
As I already mentioned in this post I'd be happy to become a judge, but there might be other members willing to become judge which are perhaps more suited.
So my direct question is: Will one of the "PuzzlePicnic crew" appoint a new judge? And if not, why not?
------
PS: This post is not intended to criticize the current judges in any way. I understand that verifying the uniqueness of a puzzle can be hard, especially for the difficult puzzles or puzzles of a certain genre (Fission, Numberlink and Honey Islands come to my mind)

Hi there!
Sorry about the late reply. We are considering appointing one or more extra judges, and we will let you guys know how we would like to go about this.

I could also volunteer later, if needed - right now I'm too busy with family things.

certainly seems to be a delay in getting puzzles signed off (I have 3 which have been waiting for 3 months - I guess others have longer delays) which in turn puts me off creating more. Happy to help check some if extra help is required.

I'd be all too happy to power through the easy puzzles, leaving the other judges more time to verify the harder ones.

All yet to be verified puzzles are stored in the vestibule. Currently, the vestibule holds 140 puzzles yet to be verified. We think it is fantastic that we have so many puzzle enthusiasts authoring puzzles. However, we recognize that a good share of puzzles are remaining in the vestibule for too long. Generally, these are puzzles with a high difficulty, or in genres that are time-consuming to verify (for instance Sum Thing).
Within the PuzzlePicnic crew, we have been putting extra effort to get the vestibule empty and release all its (correct and fun) puzzles. It is clear to us that the current rate of verification is not sufficient. We see the growing frustration of the puzzle authors in their puzzle comments and we share it.
In the past, an important consideration for us has been to keep the PuzzlePicnic crew small. We wanted each judge to feel responsible for each puzzle in the vestibule. We feared that if the team grew too large, this responsibility would be felt less. This is the reason we have been hesitant to expand the team. Now, we see clearly that the increased number of new puzzles and size of the vestibule warrant more judges.
We very much appreciate the proactive attitude of the posters in this thread and in the other thread mentioned earlier. It is great to have such a warm community.
We will start by contacting the currently available volunteers (fl0rrat, edderiofer, apollo1001) from this thread by email.
If you are interested in becoming a judge and helping out the PuzzlePicnic crew, post here. Make sure you have your email entered in your profile (private is fine). We will contact you by email to discuss the responsibilities involved.

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? |

@fl0rrat: it appears the email address in your profile is invalid (my email bounces). Can you update the email address in your profile and mention it here?

since it appears that there is still a queue in the vestibule I would like to volunteer as a judge. I see it as a challenge to review the more difficult puzzles since I hope there is a lot of need for more challenging puzzles.
