Now available: Solve puzzles on any device!
Today, we deliver on our promise to make our puzzles available on any device. Previously, a Java plugin was required to solve puzzles. We have developed a solution based on HTLM5 technology. Our new HTML5 puzzle is designed to run on all devices with a modern browser. This includes a wide range of mobile devices, including tablets and smartphones. For instance, you can now use a Galaxy Tab 3 (Android) or an IPad 2 (Apple).
Beta
This is a beta release. We will be working on adding the following features over the coming period of time:
- support for dragging behavior in the puzzle
- printing puzzles
- keyboard shortcuts
- mouse wheel
- better touch support
- fixing visual imperfections, such as line thickness, font size, size of shapes.
- improving user experience
- speed improvements
- create studio
It is important to note that although solving puzzles is supported, creating them is not. The studio still relies on the Java applet.
Support for switching back to Java if needed
During the beta, the HTML5-based puzzle and the Java applet can be used interchangeably. This ensures that any problems can be overcome by simply switching back to the Java applet. The new HTML5-based puzzle is enabled by default for all users. Members can express their preference for either Java or HTML5 on their profile page.
The sheer number and variety of devices precludes us from testing our new HTML5 puzzle exhaustively. We appreciate any feedback of your experience with your device, either in this forum topic or a new one. We will keep you updated!

I tried to solve this puzzle http://puzzlepicnic.com/puzzle?4220
And it told me, that solution is incorrect, but when I switched to java, the solution was ok.

Thanks for the feedback! Just confirmed the wrong behavior. I will look into it.

On any Star Battle puzzle:
1) Mark any square as not-star
2) Use the eraser to clear that square
3) Mark the square as not-star again
4) Be confused about why the new mark doesn't show up
5) Really mark the square as not-star again
EDIT:
This extends to Rectangles as well, possibly others.
Many thanks for this version, though. The Java always had a ridiculous startup time for me, as well as the occasional delay in reacting to user input. This is already a big improvement!

Great stuff! Many thanks for this update and for your continuous work on what is possibly the best free puzzle site on the internet. I can't wait for the drag feature!

This update solved one of my biggest gripes, the low performance and rendering issues on Ubuntu machines. Works perfectly now! I can live without the drag feature for a while, even though it's missed.
Terrific job.

Any dragging action (to mark multiple squares at once) does not seem to work anymore.

There's your answer; we haven't implemented it yet.

Thanks for all the kind words and reported issues!
The issue mentioned by Ruffe regarding incorrect solutions has been fixed. This occurred for puzzles where the range of inputs, 1-8, was greater than the range used in the solution, which was 1-4. This situation affected only a small number of genres. It has been reported for Panorama as well. In any case, it should be fixed for all genres.

Print support
Today, we added new buttons for printing that no longer require Java. Under the hood, we generate a PDF with the selected puzzles instead of using the Java applet.
We replaced the buttons on the "My Puzzles"-page and the puzzle search page. We added a new print button on the Puzzle page.

This is because it uses custom puzcode. I spotted that during alpha testing. It comes up on a couple more puzzles as well.

Fixed bugs
- incorrect behavior Star Battle when using eraser and pencil after each other (reported by tchakkazulu)
- missing number in Heyawak puzzle due to custom puzcode (reported by Ruffe)
- it was possible to select more than one button
New feature: Dragging!
Our HTML5-based puzzle now allows for duplicating elements inside a puzzle. This is done by pressing on an element and dragging it to other elements.
Dragging is supported both on regular computers (using a mouse) and on mobile devices (using touch). It is designed to work similar to dragging in the old Java applet.
As before, we appreciate any feedback on the new dragging behavior. We have noticed that it is "slow" for larger puzzles. We hope to remedy that in future versions.
