After I posted a Mastermind puzzle a few weeks ago here in the forum I've been playing some of the ones here. I've solved 1 or 2 but by no means can I call myself an expert. I've noticed that you can left-click a number to draw a circle around it, which can be used if you've concluded that 4 must be in the code. You can also right-click a number to draw a diagonal slash through it, which is a good way to mark numbers that aren't in the code. The puzzles which I've found at a Danish site called Kalkulu are based on the Bulls and Cow game, or Number Mastermind. I use my copy of the Number Mastermind board game to solve these. Here a 4-digit code is always four different numbers with no duplication. Incidentally the possible combinations for a puzzle using the digits 1 to 9 would be 3,024, and if all ten digits including 0 are used the number is 5,040. The process of solving Mastermind puzzles with all the different strategies and techniques is something that hasn't been explored as thoroughly as others, such as chess. It would be fun to see more Mastermind puzzles posted here soon!
