Given the dates, I can only assume these comments refer to an earlier version!

From my understanding, that middle row platform on the left is the problem. Long story short, the right end of that platform is supported by the bottom platform underneath it. The left end of the platform below it is supported... by the middle platform. Therefore, you've got an instability that doesn't work.

My explanation probably doesn't make a ton of sense, and I'm not somewhere right now where I can post pics, but that's the gist of this one.

I understand what you're describing, I think, but I don't see why it is disallowed.

In my solution, I don't see anything about the way the middle-left shelf is attached on the left that is different from the way the middle-right shelf is attached on the right or the top-right shelf is attached on the right.

What is the rule that forbids the left-hand attachment but allows the two right-hand attachments?
Thanks - I have just completed it and can confirm, it means divide.

Interestingly, it turns out the puzzle is solvable without that operator, so actually the point is a bit moot!
Very, very clever!

Actually, pretty easy to solve once you've found the trick... but it's not necessarily an easy trick to find!
What does the colon operator mean in this context? Is it defining a ratio? If so, how does that work?

The only way I can interpret it is something like 15 : 5 = 3, but that is just division, so why isn't the division operator being used?

I, too, am having real difficulty with this puzzle. Either there is something wrong with the solution (which I've not looked at yet) or there is some confusion/ambiguity in the rules.

I have put my working here: http://pasteboard.co/QvN5z4MIM.jpg

As far as I can see, at each stage I am adding fully-supported shelves, and the right number of elements are used in the final solution. However it is still being reported as incorrect.

What am I misunderstanding here?
Ditto! I felt like I'd got a long way, with about 1/3 blanked-out, but filling in the rest was a bit painful.
That's true, in general.

But would it also be true, do you think, if you added the constraint that each row/column contains each number in the set (e.g. 1-4, as here) exactly once?
Strike that - I've just realised the ridiculousness of that suggestion!

However, maybe a variant where both the arrows and numbers were missing? Or would that be impossible?

It feels like there's a possible variant here, somehow, but I can't place it...
Nice Sudoku-style grid! Makes me wonder if this kind of puzzle could be inverted, so the arrows are present and you need to fill in the numbers?

The line doesn't need to be pre-filled. It is trivially deducible.

@commdecker - I think you're right. I've checked my solution multiple times and can't spot an error, so either I'm puzzle-blind or there's more than one solution.
