My assumption is that : means / (division) and I will proceed to solve on that basis.

Please advise if this is not the case!

I notice this was never changed, and occurs in a number of puzzles. Would it be possible to change them to use the conventional division symbol, to avoid confusion?

So far, I have spotted it in #965, #1238 and #1797, but there may be others.
Are there are any techniques for solving this kind of multiplation Alphametic, other than trial and error?

With two operands, I can think of a couple of techniques that give a small bit of help, but they don't really apply with more than two operands.

[Edit] A quick internet search[1] indicates that this might indeed just be trial and error...

Seconded!
Why don't you create it as a puzzle in the studio, then we can play it via the interface.

Is there a method to this one? If there is, I couldn't find it. Ended up solving it using a rather tedious brute-force approach, but it was slooooow.
I've always thought you should get a different message if the puzzle is incomplete, as opposed to incorrect.

It probably isn't possible for all puzzles, but for the ones where you need to enter something into every cell (for some definition of 'cell'), it would be pretty easy to implement, and very helpful!

Highlighting the missing cells would be a bonus, but not essential.
Nice - I hadn't come across that before.

Wikipedia page (spoiler alert)
Me too - very clever!
Same here - yesterday was the first time I could log in for a little while.

Is it some kind of bot flood, or is it a general server issue that needs investigating? Is there anything that can be done to mitigate this?

Wow - very clever! Must have taken ages!
I very much enjoyed this puzzle, however it violates the rules and is not actually solvable in its current formulation:

Fill in n different digits on every row, in every column, and in every area of n cells that is bordered by a thicker line.

I am aware that this is supposed to be two Sudoku grids on top of each other, but the result of this superimposition is that there are several additional "areas of 9 squares bordered by a thicker line". There are quite a few irregular shapes that meet this description in the overlapping section. Plus there are two 3x3 regions that are not part of either sudoku grid and which contain duplicate digits, so it would not even be sufficient to specify that the thick-bordered areas were square.

I'm not sure this is fixable within the constraints of the authoring system as it stands. The only way I can think to resolve it would be to change the rules to say "...bordered by a thicker line of the same colour" and to mark out the two grids in different colours.

As it stands, it requires some extra assumptions from the solver, and is open to misinterpretation.
