Not that I've solved this one, but should the length of the snake be 48 (instead of 47 as posted)? The clues suggest 46 body segments in addition to the head and tail.

I just like things to be tidy .

Projecting a checker board pattern on the grid, head and tail are on the same colour, which suggests an odd length. This seems to settle doubts one might have towards if the head and tail are counted or are not, because it makes sense that the one left out in the count is precisely the head (exclusive)or the tail not within the scope of the numbers.

Here's what you're missing: The head is included in the column counts, and the tail is included in the row counts. So there are 46 squares plus the head, or 46 squares plus the tail.
